Product readiness for founders raising investment

Make sure the product backs up the story before investors go looking.

A product review that catches what a fundraise would expose, so you're the one who finds it first.

Three examples of what diligence actually finds

The metrics in the pitch don't match what's actually happening.

A headline feature can sit in the story as a growth driver for months after most users have quietly stopped touching it.

The friction your own team has stopped noticing is exactly what a fresh pair of eyes hits first.

Password resets, confusing first-login screens, unclear error messages, your team's used to them or knows the workarounds. Someone from the investor's side, logging in for the first time, doesn't have that familiarity, and hits every one of them.

Adoption numbers can hide the actual experience underneath them.

A product can be "adopted" by a usage metric while the people using it describe it as tolerated, not embraced.

What you actually get

Not a slide deck. A report built from real usage data, direct customer conversations, and hands-on use of the product itself, so you know exactly what an investor's own diligence would find, before they find it.

How it works

Three steps, from scoping to debrief

Step 1

Talk and scope

A working session on what your investors will actually scrutinise, and what to focus on, then we agree access to your data, roadmap, and customers.

Step 2

Assess

We use the product ourselves, dig into the usage data, and talk directly to real customers, not just the ones who will say nice things. Every assessment also covers how exposed you are to AI-native competitors, and where AI could help your customers.

Step 3

Report & debrief

Findings, risks and strengths alike, go into a draft you see first, then your full set of reports, walked through with you once you've read them.

Common questions

What founders raising capital usually ask first

How much time will this take from my dev team during raise prep?

Minimal. We require 1 to 2 hours per week from the founder or product lead, so your engineers stay focused on shipping.

How is this different from what our financial or legal advisors already do?

They cover the numbers and the contracts. We cover the product actually producing those numbers, the layer investors increasingly probe and most founders arrive unprepared for.

What if the review finds something we'd rather not show investors?

Better to know three to six months out, with time to fix it or frame it honestly, than to have a partner's technical diligence surface it mid-round with no notice.

Why we built this

We've seen the gap from both sides

We've helped founders prepare to raise or sell, worked inside PE-backed companies, and assessed the product side of acquisition targets. We've seen financial, legal, and technical diligence be rigorous, every time. The product read almost never is. That's the gap we built Lean Otter to close.
